About HS LifeSciences
HS LifeSciences was established in 2008 by seasoned biotech entrepreneurs. Its concept is based on many years of experience in the biotech industry – an experience that prompted the founders to establish a business model to found and advance biotech companies without conventional serial rounds of equity-based financing.
The approach is based on the following observations:
Time from patent filing to reaching market approval is the process that needs to be optimized in drug development.
Despite medical research in Europe having tremendous depth and quality, the European biotech industry has not been very successful in managing the translation of this huge asset into commercial success.
Young biotech companies typically lack the required focus on R&D because of sub-optimal financing and diverse shareholder interests.
The biotech industry can no longer afford to replicate much of the drug development infrastructure that already exists within the pharmaceutical industry and clinical research.
Therefore, HS LifeSciences is pursuing a business model in which its biotech companies resume their role as innovation powerhouses bringing together the founders expertise and their medical innovations with the pharmaceutical industry as early as possible. The goal is to then bring novel therapies to the market in the fastest possible manner in structures that are tailored to the needs of both companies.
In order to fund these innovative start-ups, QureInvest, a fund managed by HS LifeSciences, was established at the end of 2008. |
